And some artists are doing “uniform” experiments. Sheena Matheiken wore an identical black dress every day for a year, ending this May, reinventing the look each day with vintage, second-hand or handmade accessories “as an exercise in sustainable identical dresses” and as a fundraiser for an educational foundation in India.

Her greatest joy, tnf, Beker says, is often when she’s on the road and knows she has a limited number of options in her suitcase.

”Because we all have so much more information at our fingertips, we’re all editors and we all have developed a point of view.

Here’s hoping the harem-diaper-pyjama pants will be my tipping point.

But she says she has always been in love with fashion and was a makeup artist before she switched careers.

”I hate to shop,” Moses said, adding she never goes into H&M, for example, for a quick fashion hit.

And a strong trend toward minimalism is emerging for fall.

”If people follow fashion, they need something more than a simple boyfriend blazer or jacket.”

You need one fabulous item, he added, and depending on who you are, christian louboutin shoe, that might be an item of clothing, a bag, a shoe or jewellery. “You don’t want to dress like a Christmas tree or a fashion editorial, christian louboutin shoes,” he said.

Two years ago, when drop-crotch fashion-victim pants appeared on the style scene, I was aghast. Not me, I thought.

”Editing is essentially having a point of view.”

”We do love options, and there are so many coming at us fast and furiously.”

The Gap is offering a system for dressing called Black Magic, with every cut of black pant available to be mixed and matched with suit jackets, simple Ts and tanks in grey, white or black, and a few ruffly pieces.

The pants collection, with trousers including the “really skinny,” a boyfriend cut, slim cropped, modern boot and “the perfect trouser,” was a logical transition from Gap’s previous premium denim push, Wickwire said.

More important: “That’s the operative word today in putting your wardrobe together -for making sense of the chaos in our closet.”

Then there is Debra Moses, a chartered accountant, specializing in taxes, who has her own system. She never goes into a frenzy about what to wear in the morning. And she doesn’t wear boring black or blue suits and white shirts each day, either, although she works in a conservative environment at a major firm and must dress the business-like part.

I kept the pants, but have I learned a lesson?

While Moses has the means to buy at the mid-priced designer level, the same system could work with lines from the Gap to Club Monaco.

Her closets tell the story: a row of perhaps 20 pencil skirts in many colours in one closet, although she’s rather mortified that some winter and summer is mixed together (It’s not right, she says); colourful, flirty blouses on the top row of another closet stuffed in with suit jackets; a tightly packed row of cocktail dresses -red chiffon embellished with crystals, blue velvet, bronze satin and so on; the pant closet, and last but not least, the shoes and boots, some of formidable height. A jacket and high heels are de rigueur for meeting clients, she says.

Baker said she named the collection Edit because she doesn’t design it, she edits it.

On a less extreme level, Jeanne Beker, the Fashion Television veteran, is coming out with a collection called Edit for the Bay this fall.

”There is a lot of clutter in our lives and there is a kind of liberation that comes with a simpler approach,” said Beker, who sees her new line as a blank canvas of fashion-forward basics to be personalized and embellished, mixed and matched with things you already own.

There’s a fledgling movement afoot to go on a fashion diet. The website Six Items or Less challenged women and men to wear no more than six items for 31 days. About 100 people from around the world, including a belly dancer from Montreal, rose to the challenge, which ended in late July. Some did it for curiosity, others for creativity, others to make a statement about excessive consumption.

I might have looked back at what I wrote in February 2008: “Cargo pants … have morphed into pantaloons, harem pants and saggy satin drop-crotch capris. Don’t worry: You’ll get used to the wacky pants. We all adjust to the oddities of fashion -eventually.”

  Probably not.

Faced with a closet full of trends, one is faced with a dilemma: “Where’s my stylist?!” Worse, there’s the common complaint of those who have too many choices: “I have nothing to wear!”

From Belgian designer Dries Van Noten: versatile pieces with a little wow.

”I couldn’t believe the way they fit,” she said of her first foray into his clothes. “They make you feel like a woman. They have an edge, but you’re able to wear them in the business world and not feel too flashy.”

As for my point of view on those crazy-making harem pants, I remained unsure of my choice, a runway “cherry” in designer The-Anh’s system. So I posted a picture of myself wearing them on Fashism. com, in which online viewers judge the look. The verdict was clear: “Do not leave the house in those!” “Seriously unflattering.” The main problem, to most critics, was that I paired the pants with the wrong top.

About two weeks ago, I succumbed to the lure of the louche and bought a pair -adding considerably to the chaos in my closet.

Beker, meanwhile, is working with Montrealbased Levy Canada, working with designers from lines like FDJ French Dressing, for a launch this month at The Bay. Edit will include items like a boiled wool coat, arc teryx jackets, wide-leg pant, boot-length skirt, an LBD, crepe shirts and a cape jacket with sleeves. “They’re easy to mix with your existing pieces and those you will eventually acquire,” Beker said. The Bay would not release photos of the collection yet.

There’s a similar philosophy at the Gap: “It’s about starting with things you love, that you reach for every day -a black blazer, a pair of grey or black pants, jimmy choos, white Ts, and then adding in accessories or the colours of the season,” said Tara Wickwire, public-relations manager for the Gap in Canada.

Beker suggests we all have to become better editors in these “crazy-making times.”

”I don’t need anything,” she said.

The antidote to all this chaos, christian louboutin shoe, clutter and conspicuous consumption is emerging in several overlapping options: uniform dressing, minimalism and the fashion diet.

”I think the main thing that I’m going to take away from this experiment is that on a grand scheme of things -no one, except you, cares about what you look like. It’s all in your head,” Proxikid, from London, wrote on the site ( www.sixitemsorless.com).

The fault is fashion itself, specifically fast fashion and its vortex of whirling trends: skinny jeans and leggings, which go with long, loose tops; cargos and harems, which definitely don’t. Minis, ruffles, caftans -and much, much more at rock-bottom prices from the purveyors of cheap chic.

For The-Anh, minimalism is not the answer to clearing the fashion clutter. “People want to dress up to feel better,” he said.

Moses’s system started four years ago when she discovered Montreal designer Andy The-Anh. She simply buys a season’s worth of clothes -10 to 20 pieces -at his trunk show twice a year. And she doesn’t buy just suits, but groups of clothes that work in variations. Now, after four years, she’s able to buy pieces to go with her existing wardrobe. Nothing is a throwaway.

If you are trying to build a wardrobe, those cherries are tempting, but should not be first on your list.

”It’s a creative exercise and liberating exercise.”

”It makes life simple to weed out that unnecessary stuff sometimes,” she said.

”People want to simplify their wardrobes and then add in great special pieces, season to season,” she said.

To develop a system, he says, pick “the” item of the season that works for you: this fall, it could be the narrow cropped pant or the longer skirt. You should have your staples by September, chosen from the pre-fall collections, when designers offer those basics, he advised. Then you work toward embellishing those pieces, tnf, and perhaps choose a runway item. “That’s what we call the cherry on the top,” The-Anh said.

The Gap’s Wickwire noted that the fall collections are quite minimalist, with an emphasis on layering simple pieces together.

About 95 per cent of her clothes come from The-Anh.

Famed designer Jattinn Kochhar who is based out of New Delhi opened this edition of BFW. His collection was nothing short of resplendent, but what was lacking was the audience turnout. Now,moncler coats, we blame it on the schedule of his show ― early show, manolo blahnik boot, that too on a weekday.

  Day 2 ― Better day

City-based designer Michelle Salins, christian louboutin pigalle pumps, who was already flying high with her stint at the international fashion circuit, did the city proud yet again with her collection that glorified the grand Indian embellishments.

  Day 3 ― Houseful shows

Good turn out, not just because it was a Saturday but also because the hitmakers of the last edition ― Swapnil Shinde, christian louboutin ankle boot, Ramesh Dembla and Archana Kochhar ― were showcasing this day.

Shinde’s futuristic collection left everyone mesmerised. Dembla who showcased next, did not leave the audience disappointed either, cheap herve leger dresses, except for some who were left grumbling for not getting to enter the over-packed hall. As expected, the city designer had stars walking down for his royal Indian collection, but the count was (much) lesser this time. This is one night Bangalore’s fashion-conscious populace will remember for a long time. The queue outside the venue seemed to be never-ending as much did the wait to begin the show of the czar of Indian fashion, christian louboutin deals, JJ Valaya. Once Valaya’s exquisite trousseau collection ― inspired by courtesan Alika ― took to the stage, the only thing that prevailed in one’s mind was, ‘What a brilliant piece of work!’

Running Barefoot

There was a time when barefoot runners were viewed as a curiosity at road races.

They still are, christian louboutin bridal, to a degree ― people on the side of the road still point and yell, “Barefoot runner!” ― but lately, there seems to be more of an acceptance of runners sans shoes, and perhaps there are a few more of them, too. On July 5, three runners ― two longtime barefoot runners, as well as a younger boy ― ran without shoes on a scorching hot day in the Four on the Fifth 4-mile road race in Chester. Another runner, Kerry Arsenault of Guilford, ran in the trendy Vibram FiveFingers, glove-like shoes that simulate running barefoot.

The barefoot trend has been fueled by the 2009 best-seller “Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall. McDougall chronicles an adventure that starts when he goes to the doctor to find out why his feet hurt and ends up in an epic race between top ultramarathoners and the reclusive superathletes from the Tarahumara Indian tribe in Mexico.

Threaded in between is a discussion of how padded, christian louboutin sample sale, gel-injected running shoes have weakened modern-day runners’ feet, increasing injuries rather than preventing them. Advocates of barefoot running say the muscles in the feet work better when there are no shoes in the way. Shoes, they say, encourage a heel strike first, rather than a mid- or forefoot strike, a more natural way of running. Research by Harvard professor Daniel Lieberman, who has studied the biomechanics of barefoot running, has shown that barefoot runners land with less impact.

Arsenault, a longtime trail runner and marathoner, was sold. She read the book and bought the Vibrams.

”It kind of sparked something in me,moncler jackets for sale,” said Arsenault, 45. “I always thought the shoes make your feet weak. They do all the support for you. It’s like having your foot in a cast.

”I don’t want to run barefoot. I don’t want to get cut. You feel so light. You’re not wasting a lot of energy. My ankles are so weak, and you can’t feel anything with the regular shoes. You can’t feel the ground. Every time I wear the Vibrams, I’ll twist my ankle and I’ll catch myself a lot quicker. For me, it’s great.”

Arsenault, who wears lightweight running shoes for her longer runs, slowly worked her way up to 10 miles with the Vibrams.

”It made running enjoyable,” she said. “You really have to use your body. You use your core to run lightly on the pavement. You have to run on top of rocks. Not in the rocks.”

That’s exactly what “Barefoot” Ken Bob Saxton of Huntington Beach, Calif., has been preaching for years, except with bare feet.

”We were born with lots of nerves on the bottom of our feet, christian louboutin cork heel, and now we’re shoving them in a shoe, so we can’t feel the mistakes we’re making,” said Saxton, 54, who has had a website about barefoot running (therunningbarefoot.com) for more than a decade and is working on a book on the subject. “Most of the foot problems we have are the result of running without feedback from our feet. If we listen to pain, we change the way we run so as not to cause pain while we’re barefoot. We become gentle runners.

”The risks are really exaggerated. It’s the fear of the unknown. Our feet haven’t been allowed to touch the ground for so long.”

Barrie Robbins-Pianka of Middletown, daughter of the late, great barefoot runner Charley Robbins, mostly runs barefoot. But, like Arsenault, she does run with shoes occasionally.

”Your foot isn’t made to be encased in whatever,” Robbins-Pianka said. “You weren’t born with shoes. In the past, people would say, ‘You’re going to hurt yourself if you don’t put something on your feet. They need support.’ But the human body is what it is.

”Other people I have known, including my father, discount christian louboutin shoes, didn’t wear shoes running at all. He tried everything to avoid wearing them in the winter, but it didn’t always work out.”

While barefoot running is becoming more accepted, elite runners appear to be sticking with their shoes. And there haven’t exactly been legions of barefoot runners showing up at local road races.

Central Connecticut State University track and cross country coach Eric Blake, a two-time Mount Washington Road Race winner and runner-up this year, said he would never run barefoot ― nor would he encourage his college runners to do so.

”I can’t think of anyone who trains or races without shoes,” said Blake, 31, of New Britain. “Ninety-nine percent of your training should be done with shoes on. The only time I could see doing it is doing some strides occasionally, christian louboutin platform pumps, at the end of a run, christian louboutin shoes on sale, if you feel like that’s helping you.

”I would never recommend it. It would be tough to train barefoot. You’re risking possible injury or a cut from stepping on glass or something sharp. … Although if you really think it’s for you, it’s probably worth giving it a try. I’d limit the amount starting off.”
